Angel Eyes is a tragedy played out as a hard-boiled detective mystery. A strange, unlikely friendship between a private detective and a homicidal madman propels the shamus into a dark, violent, back-alley world of ugly, dangerous men and beautiful, conniving women. He must find and destroy an elusive envelope or people will die--the same people who, in turn, would like to see him dead.

This is a pleasant and enjoyable thriller that will leave you guessing as to who the killer is and what else would pop up from the seedy life that the chamus - Jack Slamminsky - was inadvertently thrust in when he took his first case in months. The book was very well-written, has tons of action and humor, and has an extremely likeable main character (Slamm) and villains, including Ace Hecht, who turns out to be an above average underworld criminal with common issues that anyone would identify with. It is only until you reach the end of the book that you finally understand why the book was poignantly and aptly named Angel Eyes. The only issue that I have with the book is that it seems like the cast of characters in the book are all promiscuous, all in the name of "love" or money. Everyone seems to be constantly shacking up with someone new. This includes Slamm who pursus both Ann Skully, the main murder suspect in the story, and Gail, her mother. Gail, in turn, after dumping Slamm for a rich older French man in the book, finds herself on the sidelines later on due to her lack of social skills and command of the French language. Ann, is also busy - and takes up with her stalker, Freddie, temporarily just to get him to steal some papers for her and then later on, pursues Slamm. It's all like a love triangle where relationships are concerned.
Overall, the book was relatively enjoyable with some interesting twists and turns. It has an interesting undertone of a 1940's type of mystery murder mystery, in a way. If you decide to download this book which is a steal for $0, be sure to focus particularly on the scenes where Slamm meets Ace for the very first time at the Tubb's Bar and also where Slamm is propositioned by both Molly, Ace's girlfriend, and her brother, Ron for blackmail money. Both scenes are beyond hilarious. Would highly recommend this book.

Angel Eyes edition by J G Curtiss Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
I suppose things could have happened like they were laid out in the book.
And that's what I liked about it-everything was so normal (in a bad sort of way) that I wanted to keep reading just to see what finally happened. And (spoiler alert) things worked out!
Perhaps they didn't happen just like you thought they would, however.
But what fun would that be?
Read the book.
This book will have you second guessing whther or not you like the characters (actions). I could not put the book down, and cried at the end, even though the event and character didnt necessarily deserve it. Definitely recommend for someone who likes a lot of action with a little bit of romance
I really wonder how the book editor passed this preposterous imitation of the written word onto the public. There were so many misspelled words and grammatical errors that I found it painful to read, I had to put it down after only a few chapters, the dialogue between the characters was so absurd, I believe a first grader could carry on a less convoluted conversation.
I read a lot of free books and to be honest, many of them are so-so. Not this book. I thought it was terrific. Lines like - "She dragged in a suffering breath and exhaled a whiskey breath that traveled five feet," had me laughing. it was gritty, had a number of sub-plots, great character development, bad guys with weaknesses and love. It most certainly would read more by this Author.
This is a great PI book. I was actually sad at the end, who would have thought about being sad to see what happened to a murderer? Truth be told he was a nice guy for a murderer.
I really, really enjoyed this book. So much so that might read it again. I couldn't read it fast enough so I'm sure I missed something along the way. Just when I thought I had figured it out the plot would change. Characters were well developed and I felt like I knew them myself. Very few editing mistakes so no having to stumble over that. No filler pages, all action. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good, fast paced easy read. Be prepared for sleepless nights and undone house work until you finish it.
This really should be 4.5 stars. It is a well written book but it doesn't have the thrill and suspense of some books. It's about a down and out rough and tough, good hearted private eye, who likes his women and booze a little too much. Friends with both criminals and cops he manages to raise his standards and have a successful detective agency. Read and you'll find out what he goes thru to do this.
